Bharat ka D3: Driver drowsiness and distraction detection using camera and AI models

"World Health Organization and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration data highlight drowsiness and distraction as major contributors to road crashes, yet most existing solutions are either vehicle-dynamics based or rely on uncomfortable wearables.
Bharat ka D3 is a non-invasive, real-time driver monitoring system that uses a simple camera and computer vision to detect drowsiness and distraction. Built with MediaPipe and OpenCV (with a lightweight Tkinter interface), it tracks facial landmarks to compute Eye Aspect Ratio (EAR) for prolonged eye closure and estimates head orientation to flag when a driver looks away from the road. Designed for budget-sensitive settings, it can be integrated into infotainment systems or mobile devices, with future improvements focused on robustness across lighting, face variation, and real-world driving scenarios."
